What is the production and consumption of olives in Spain?

On the other hand, Spain is ranked number one in terms of production and fourth in terms of table consumption. The average world production over the last five seasons amounts to 2,472,700 tonnes, of which 524,700 tonnes were produced in Spain, that is, 21% of the total.

In the most important sectors of table olive production, Spain is ranked number one in the world, followed at a great distance by other countries such as Egypt, Turkey, Algeria, Greece, Syria and Morocco.

These figures make it clear that most of the table olives we consume today are of Spanish origin. Taking this into account, if we add this together with their distribution and individual consumption between Western and Eastern countries, it leaves a high percentage of ownership that positions it very high not only in its own productivity and consumption, but also in quality.

On the other hand, world production of table olives will grow by 2.5% in the current 2020/21 season compared to the previous one, to 3.134 million tonnes. Although other percentages are spread around the world, the Seville olive is one of the most coveted and exported olives in the world, exceeding almost 30%. Its demand is high in both non-producing and table olive producing countries.

Not to mention the high olive consumption not only internationally but also nationally. According to the Food Consumption Panel of the MAPIn 2017, national household consumption increased by 6.71 TP3T. For hotels and restaurants, no data are available since 2011. Household consumption accounts for around 75% of national table olive consumption.
